Next Meeting:
January 12, 2026
Please join us at our next meeting which will be on January 12, 2026. The club member meeting is first and begins at 6:00 pm and lasts about 30 minutes. You will have a chance to hear all about the events that are planned, which include field trips and speakers for the upcoming months. Please take part in our monthly silent auction and see the wonderful specimens and books available for your perusal. All proceeds from the silent auction go towards our Jim Meacham Earth Sciences Scholarship. Bidding begins when you walk through the door and usually runs till about 6:50 pm. Come early and mingle with friends and enjoy some refreshments. Doors usually open about 5:30 pm. Please remember to start saving your “nickels and dimes” for the Rock Extravaganza that will be happening at our February 9, 2026 meeting. We have been setting aside the best of the best specimens for this event and it should prove something not to be missed! Our speaker for January will be Daniel Pike who will be sharing with the club the mining history of Colorado. He will cover the past, present, and future trends of mining in Colorado. This would include discussing different mineralization zones in Colorado, the types of minerals that have been produced, where and when mining has occurred, specifics about some of the largest mines in Colorado, and the future outlook for the industry. Daniel Pike is a geologist with the Bureau of Land Management in Canon City, Colorado. Daniel has a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Cincinnati, and a Master of Science in Geology from Texas Tech University. During his career, he has worked in many locations including eastern Oregon, Idaho, southeast Alaska, Houston, and Colorado. Daniel currently works in the oil/gas and metal mining sectors.
